Sorry I haven't posted in so long... My mom has been cyberbullying me so I've finally focused enough to write something. It's at the point where enough stuff has happened that I don't wanna explain it all so I just decide not to write at all haha but I'll try to explain things I've done and not make it to long. I can't write anymore btw. Whenever I write in my journal I just misspell words and only half finish my sentences and a lot of it is in French and abbreviations I've made up so It's like a new language! That doesn't do much good though now because peux pas write correctly!!
(Host) Familyyyy<3
I've been living with my second family for a little over three months now it's passed so quickly. I have four host sisters who are 9, 11, 13, and 16 years old and I've improved my French immensely during my time here cause the girls like teaching me new words (today I learned the different finger names) and they ask me lots of questions. Sometimes I find myself waking up at 8am on the weekends when Blanche plays games or someone sings Adele, and sometimes it's loud and I'm tired, but living with little sisters has been the most incredible experience and leaving them is going to be so difficult! I'm so lucky I got to live with a family so energetic and funny. My host parents are so patient and helpful and I just love them all so much!!!
Skiing in the Alps!!
During February break I went skiing with my first host family and it was such a memorable and cozy week. That's a weird way to describe it but it felt very Christmas-y because we were in the mountains and there was always a fire and we were all together as a family and we ate a lot of junk food all the time! All of my favorite things!!! My good friend Lexi came too and it was perfect to share that week with her and Philippine. All of their family is really nice too. I don't get it. It was foggy for a couple days we were there and skiing was scary but in an exciting way and the family all stuck together and the little cousins helped me too. :) Kids are inspiring because they're brave and honest and they always focus on exactly what they're doing. I'm gonna be more like that.
February Bus Trip
In the second week of February break I went on a bus trip with exchange students from my district and from the district from Lyon. It was super super wonderful cause I got to spend 6 days with the most adventurous and funniest people I've ever met all while seeing some of France and Spain. I made a video and I'll post pictures of all the places! Going back to school after that felt a little monotonous but not everything can be crazy and exciting all the time (i guesssssss).
Mon Anniversaire!
March 7th I turned 17 and everyone here made me feel so loved :') My host family made me a cake and got my a really nice Longchamp bag (I'm a française now) and I had a little party with my friend Mathilde who has the same birthday as me and a couple other friends from school! It was such a cool experience celebrating my birthday here. Of course my wonderful mom sent me a package in the mail full of candy and gifts for my host sisters and they loved all of it! Thank you mom for always teaching me to show gratitude. <3
Easter
On Easter Sunday my family and I went to church, then we went to my host dad's parent's house and ate lots of delicious food and played games on their camping site property. The next day we went to Valence to visit my host mom's parents and we ate even more food (including frog legs) (i ate frrrooogggg lleeeeggggss) (it's cultural) (pas mal almost like chicken but more froggy). I don't talk about the food here enough. French people take a lot (a lot) or pride in their cuisine and they have reason to.. I've never tasted stuff like this. Sometimes after meals I feel kind of bad that something that special and beautiful is just gone and eaten forever. My host parents can whip up a quiche in 15 minutes and it's just casually the best thing I've ever eaten.
Other Stuff
Other than those things I've just been at school or seeing friends. I can participate more at school now and I understand basically everything so that's made things much more interesting than before!
Right now my French is the best it's ever been, it's getting warm outside, I have a lot coming up, and I l feel completely content and at home here... And then I remember I go home in about 3 months and I stress the hell out because I'm not ready to go!! ! ! ! !!!!! ! I love Alaska so much and I've never appreciated the people there more than I do now, and I love them all, but I don't think I'll ever be ready to leave this. I'm in a city with 12,000 people and it can feel isolated at times I guess, but I wouldn't change it for anything because the people I've met here I wouldn't have met anywhere else. I'll never have the opportunity to live in this beautiful little town again so I'm kinda stressing over having to leave it in three months........I'm scared you guys!! Losing contact with people you're far from is inevitable and if I don't practice my French I'll lose it and next year is going to be so stressful. BUT for now I'm enjoying the French springtime, my friends, and even 8-6pm Tuesdays.
